The impact of the Turkey earthquake on the UAE

The Director of the Earthquake Department at the National Center of Meteorology, Khalifa Al-Abri, stated that the earthquakes that occurred in southern Turkey today, the strongest of which reached 7.6 degrees, and resulted in loss of life and property and severe damage to some buildings in both southern Turkey and northern Syria, were not the first of the series. Its type has a strength of more than 6 degrees in the vicinity of 250 km from this area.
Al-Abri stressed that the UAE and the Arab Gulf region are completely far from any effects of this earthquake.

History of earthquakes that hit the region

Al-Abri said in a press statement: "Since 1970 until now, the vicinity of the same region has witnessed a number of earthquakes and tremors whose magnitude exceeded 6 degrees on the Richter scale, the strongest of which was before the earthquake that occurred today, in the year 2020, when its magnitude at that time reached 6.7 degrees on the Richter scale." Richter scale, as a result of the breaking and displacement of rocks due to the accumulation of internal stresses of the earth left by geological effects that resulted in the movement of tectonic plates in the earth's crust, which led to the occurrence of seismic activity to empty that energy stored in the earth's interior.
