The environmental projects and initiatives

The UAE cabinet conference authorised 78 environmental projects and initiatives done by the Emirates to get ready for the hosting of COP28 in November at Expo City Dubai.

The 78 projects include national carbon reduction policies and regulations governing the usage of solar energy products, as well as sustainable tourism and other programmes that promote sustainable and environmentally friendly progress.

UAE efforts in decarbonization

In 2017, the UAE was the first GCC member to adopt a national climate policy and the first to commit to net-zero emissions by 2050.

ADNOC, the UAE's largest oil exporter, has set aside $15 billion for carbon reduction initiatives such as carbon capture, electrification, and innovative CO2 absorption technologies.

The UAE thinks that by organising COP28, it would give real answers to help people cope with climate change and manage its escalating consequences, As back in 2015, at the COP21 conference in Paris, a target of 1.5 degrees Celsius was set.

COP28 President Aspirations

"We just hit the seven-year mark since the Paris Agreement's adoption, with only seven years until 2030." "We have seven years to decrease emissions by 43% and keep the Paris Agreement's goals and objectives alive", COP28 UAE President Designate Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber remarked at the 14th Petersburg Climate Dialogue in Berlin.

Al Jaber, the CEO of ADNOC, has emphasised the significance of phasing out fossil fuel emissions while focusing on viable and cost-effective carbon-free alternatives.
