"Emirates Today" saw sales on apparel and food items during a field inspection of many stores. Customers said that the tendency of small and medium-sized stores to offer discounts is a good thing since most of these stores are situated close to residential areas and fulfill customers' demands better than those in locations with hypermarket stores. And commercial centers, in turn, retail experts stated that the most recent period saw an increase in the proportions of medium-sized sales outlets, and thus offers discounts in line with the growth in its competitiveness to draw customers.

Yasser Saeed, a customer, responded by stating: "The chains of medium sales outlets have become more expanding in offering discounts offers, which happened recently during the Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr seasons, providing greater alternatives and options for consumers, especially with the increase in competition with large hypermarket outlets and commercial centers."

Mahmoud Ihsan, a customer, continued, "One of the benefits for consumers is the offering of medium sales outlets and small supermarket chains offering offers for Eid discounts, as most of these outlets are between residential areas and between buildings as opposed to hypermarket outlets, which are in areas far from buildings, which will be reflected in many of the offers." The advantages for customers to profit from these reductions, especially considering that some people are unable to visit commercial centers and hypermarkets because they are preoccupied with work or other obligations.

In contrast to shopping centers and hypermarkets, the consumer Jaber Abdel-Azim said that "discount offers are not limited to hypermarket outlets and the expansion of medium and small outlets remarkable to participate in the offers of sales dedicated to Eid Al-Fitr is one of the aspects that reflect positively on shoppers."

In response, Dilip Sherwin, the sales director of a chain of medium-sized stores in Dubai and Sharjah, explained that "the high competition in the markets has stimulated many medium-sized outlets to launch discount campaigns on the occasion of Eid Al-Fitr, providing consumers with multiple options to choose between the offers offered, whether in the hypermarket or between medium outlets and allowing the latter to increase its sales shares.

One of Dubai's medium-sized outlets' sales representatives, Mohammed Mansour, added, "The medium-sized outlets increase their competitiveness in the market through discount offers during Eid Al-Fitr, which will support attracting many consumers and increase their sales shares in the face of hypermarket offers."

However, the "GMG" firm, which owns the "Gian" stores, director of retail and consumer products Marc Laurent stated that "the company's stores in various categories recently offered discounts for Eid al-Fitr."

The offers, he said, "include chocolate, candy, and gift products, in addition to several food commodities," noting that "the markets have recently witnessed healthy growth rates in daily shopping rates at outlets and via the Internet."
