According to an announcement issued by the skyscraper's developer, the First Group, construction of the Ciel Tower in Dubai, which will be the world's largest stand-alone hotel at 365 metres, has reached the halfway mark of 52 floors. Ciel Tower will have a total of 102 rooms and will have a total height of 365 metres. A total of 104 guest rooms will be available within Ciel Tower.

The Dubai-based developer said on Tuesday that they are on track to open the hotel in the first half of 2024 and finish the entire megaproject in Dubai Marina by the end of the fourth quarter of 2023.

When finished, the tower will rise higher than the current tallest hotel, the Gevora Hotel in Dubai at 356 metres. China Railway Construction Corporation, the primary development partner of The First Group, is currently constructing the NORR-designed building.

"Ciel is a landmark development for Dubai that will enhance its status as one of the world's great tourism and business travel destinations," said Rob Burns, CEO of The First Group. "It will set a new benchmark for upscale accommodation in what is recognised as one of the most dynamic and competitive hotel markets in the world."

The tourism and hospitality sector in Dubai is gradually getting back on its feet after the coronavirus epidemic. Dubai Media Office reported in February, citing data from Dubai's Department of Economy and Tourism, that the emirate had 7.28 million international overnight visitors from January through December of 2017.

However, in the fourth quarter of 2021, hotel performance in the emirate exceeded pre-pandemic levels across all metrics, with occupancy rates exceeding 81.4%, up from 80.7% in the same period in 2019. According to the Dubai Media Office, average occupancy increased to 67% in 2021 from 54% in 2020.

Ciel Tower will have more than a thousand rooms and suites, and its unique rooftop Sky Terrace will have an infinity pool and bar. On the 81st floor, guests will find the Ciel Observatory & Lounge.

The hotel's 300-meter atrium will be renowned for its 82 storeys of landscaped terraces piled vertically.

The Gevora Hotel, which opened in 2018, is six metres taller than the nearby JW Marriott Marquis Dubai (which is less than four miles away).

Uptown Tower, located between the southernmost tip of Jumeirah Lakes Towers and the Jumeirah Park neighbourhood, is the most recent addition to Dubai's ever-changing skyline.

Last week, concrete was poured for the roof of Uptown Tower, bringing the total height to 329 meters. When a steel topping is added, the height will be 340 meters.

By Emporis's count, it will be the 80th tallest structure ever built.
