The incident was described as "near catastrophic",The pair added in a statement that while being a prominent figure attracts attention from the public, it should never come at the expense of anyone's safety.

He also stated that "two of our officers could have been injured." As throngs of passersby and journalists gawked, video captured by witnesses and shared on social media showed Harry and Meghan leaving Manhattan's Ziegfeld Ballroom and boarding an SUV.
Another video published by TMZ showed the pair sitting in a yellow New York City cab several streets away from the ballroom while they were being filmed through the windows by paparazzi.
NYPD cars with flashing lights were following the cab.Princess Diana, Harry's mother, was being hounded by photographers in Paris when she was killed in a vehicle accident in 1997.
Since the British government denied Harry and Meghan protection when they relocated to California in 2020, security has been a problem, and it is a topic in three of his court actions against the government and the tabloid press.
The pursuit took place on the same day that Harry's attorney argued in court in London that the government decision denying him the ability to pay for his own protection in the UK should be overturned.During a brief visit to the UK in July 2021, Harry claims his safety was "compromised due to the absence of police protection" when his car was pursued by photographers as he left a charity event. After former President Donald Trump claimed that the US government would not pay for their protection, the couple claimed that they paid for their own security.
